Snow and Ice Celebration - Saturday, January 23rd

High Point is usually the coldest, snowiest, and iciest place in New Jersey and wintery weather has played a part in this mountain's story for thousands of years. Come join the Friends of High Point State Park for a day dedicated to snow and ice on Saturday, January 23rd from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM in the Interpretive Center.

Throughout the afternoon light refreshments will be available and there will be a digital slideshow of pictures (both historic and recent) of snow and ice at High Point.

11:00 AM - Come watch a DVD about Wilson "Snowflake" Bentley who studied and photographed snowflakes in the early 1900s.
11:30 AM - Join us for a talk by Nick Stefano of the Sussex County Weather Network about winter weather at High Point.
12:15 PM - Help us make pinecone and other simple birdfeeders to make the winter easier for our feathered friends.
1:00 PM - There will be an old-fashioned ice fishing demonstration on Lake Marcia, and snowshoes will be available for you to try outside the Interpretive Center.
2:00 PM - Warm up inside by the fire and join us for a sing-along led by Joe Rocco.

If the weather is unsuitable the Snow and Ice Celebration will take place on Sunday, January 24th.

This event is free of charge, but donations are appreciated. Proceeds support future Friends of High Point State Park programs and events. The Friends of High Point State Park is a not-for-profit organization that supports historical, scientific, educational, recreational, and natural resource management activities within the Park.
